Ubud is an amazing place for many reasons: whether that is it being Bali's cultural centre, its beautiful rice paddies, or its tight-knit community of digital nomads.
It's no secret one thing Ubud is not amazing for is fast Internet. The general rule in Bali is the further away you go from Denpasar, the slower the WiFi speed. As Ubud is about an hours drive from the city, the WiFi can be extremely, excruciatingly, painfully slow.
So where is the best WiFi in Ubud?
During the month we lived in our villa in Ubud (hyperlink video or article), we were members of the co-working space Hubud (hyperlink website). Located in central Ubud on Jalan Monkey Forest, Hubud is community space filled with some pretty amazing digital nomads and entrepreneurs. There are also really cool workshops and events put on by Hubud.
I can confidently say Hubud has the fastest WiFi in Ubud, with a download speed of 20 MB/S. Unfortunately, Hubud is very, very expensive: for a month-long pass of 25 Internet-use hours, the cost is $60.
So where do you go if you're on a budget and looking for fast Internet in Ubud?
Paradiso is a raw food cafe attached to Earth Cafe, located just off of Jalan Hanoman. They have a great selection of dairy-free chocolate desserts - my favourites were the dark chocolate brownie and the chocolate-almond square. But perhaps best of all, the WiFi works really, really well.
At other restaurants and cafes in Ubud, we were unable to download a small Word document, let alone a TV show. At Paradiso, we successfully downloaded many shows, edited our blog, and seamlessly uploaded YouTube videos.
